Blue Zerzevan Konak

Arasta Çarşısı

Arasta bazaar, II. Murat had it built by Architect Davut Ağa to generate income for the Selimiye Mosque. 256 meters long, 73 arches. It has 124 shops on both sides. Evliya Çelebi writes that this is the 'Kavaflar Bazaar.' It is known that on the prayer dome, those who have a shop here swear and pray every morning that they will do the right thing.
Arastas, one of the most important building types of Islamic architecture, which are frequently located in the kulliyes, consist of one type of shops whose income was donated to the mosque inside the complex in the past, but today they consist of various shops that sell various products, mostly touristic, and do not leave any income to the mosques except for rental income.
Each of the shops does not have a separate door. They open and close together in the morning and evening.
The arastas selling touristic goods in Edirne Selimiye Complex and the arastas in the Hızırbey Complex in Kırklareli, where there are haberdashery shops, can be given as examples of arastas that are still operating.
